A Belle Époque Villa

Villa Les Camélias is a Belle Époque building that reflects the prestigious past of Cap d’Ail. The garden level, with a sea view, is dedicated to the unique history of the town, while the upper floors feature an exceptional collection of paintings, drawings, and enamels by Basque painter Ramiro Arrue.

Local History

On the garden level, the villa houses objects and countless photographs from the late 19th century to the 1950s, capturing the daily life, leisure, and celebrations of Cap d’Ail’s residents. Alongside a strong local community, the international gentry spent their winters here, followed by numerous figures from the arts and literary worlds.

Ramiro Arrue

Ramiro Arrue was a prolific artist. The drawings, paintings, enamels, and documents gathered here reveal a silent universe filled with delicacy and majesty. His work represents the Basque Country in a figurative style, influenced by avant-garde techniques he encountered during his Parisian training in the 1920s.
