Villa Les Camélias

Exhibition by Hélène Elizaga

Hélène Elizaga’s body of work is rich and varied. Her portraits in oil, charcoal, and pastel exude grace and emotion. Her scenes of rural life, maritime settings, and Basque pelota games combine decorative strength and modern simplicity, expressed through clear geometry and subdued colors.

Her many landscapes of the Basque Country, Béarn, and Aragon are painted in a delicate, harmonious style. Her work is praised for its precise drawing, use of color, volume, and life, and especially for her ability to stylize not only posture and form, but even the essence of life itself. Her compositions evoke the strange coexistence of a natural subject framed by a hieratic setting, as if thought itself moved through matter.
